Planning your move
The majority of new undergraduates and postgraduates will move in during the weekend of Saturday 22 September and Sunday 23 September - that's over 4000 students!
Take a look at the information below to make the arrangements for your arrival run as smoothly as possible. We look forward to welcoming you onto our campus.
Booking Your Arrival Slot
Arrival by car
If you are moving into University accommodation (other than Hazel Farm) and arriving by car on Saturday 22 or Sunday 23 September 2012, you will need to book an arrival slot. You can do this as part of the University's online induction programme available from the 5 September. This will help keep your waiting time to a minimum.
After you have received an offer of accommodation you will receive an email about the online induction with the subject: IMPORTANT INFORMATION AS YOU ARRIVE AT SURREY.
This email will contain your personalised password to log into the University's online induction programme where you can book your arrival slot. If you have any issues logging on, please contact accommodation-enq@surrey.ac.uk.
It is important to stick to your chosen arrival slot as far as you possibly can - this will help everyone to have a smoother move in process.
Arrival by public transport
If you are arriving by public transport (taxi, train or bus) you do not need to book an arrival slot and may arrive and move in at any time.
For information about bus links between Guildford railway station, the Stag Hill campus, the Manor Park campus and Hazel Farm, visit the Transport section of our website.
A Helping Hand
They’ll be plenty of people to answer your questions and offer support when you move in - the Students’ Union Freshers’ Angels (identifiable by their bright yellow T-shirts), Residential Mentors, Wardens, Accommodation Services and Residential Services staff will be on campus each day to help out.
The Freshers’ Angels will also be at Guildford railway station to guide you to the mini buses that will transfer you to the Stag Hill Campus.
Before You Set Off
- Clearly identify your luggage as yours – please label every container or separate item with your name, court and room number
- Pack your belongings in manageable-sized containers that can be easily lifted
- Food is best packed in boxes rather than carrier bags and we recommend that you bring food with you or visit local supermarkets before you drive onto campus
- Keep laptops, other small electronic devices and important valuables separate and carry these with you to your room
- Have your room confirmation letter with you because you will need it to collect your key – your room confirmation letter was emailed to you and includes details of your court and room
Sat Nav Postcodes
The campus covers a large area and if you follow satellite navigation directions to the main University postcode, you may be misdirected.
The best postcodes for the various destinations on campus are provided in the table below.
