Surrey Research Park

Surrey Research Park, owned, developed and managed by the University of Surrey, is a vital part of the University’s infrastructure which supports the commercial application of Surrey’s research. The Park’s 70-acre site, located behind the Royal Surrey County Hospital, is home to around 140 companies, with many specialising in social sciences, technologies, health-related activities and engineering.

Today the companies on the park employ more than 3,200 highly qualified staff, helping to create local jobs, diversify the economy and generates between £580m and £625m of economic activity for the regional economy ever year. Since the Park opened in 1984, it has generated more than £92m of funds for the University which have been reinvested in scholarship.

Enterprise M3

The UK’s digital technology businesses and industry are critical to national growth and the University of Surrey is pleased to work in partnership with the Enterprise M3 LEP to drive the future agenda for the Digital Economy of the region. Surrey’s internationally recognised 5G/6G Innovation Centre is unrivalled in the world for its scale and technology. Its membership of 26 corporates and 42 SMEs make it the largest industry grouping of its kind in the world, and a powerful magnet for inward investment with £58m raised from industry partners to date and more planned.

Enterprise M3 supported the creation of the 5G/6G Innovation Centre and the development of the UK’s first “step-out” 5G test facility for SMEs in the Basingstoke Incubation Hub. EM3 have recently invested a further £1.75m to connect the vibrant digital gaming communities of Guildford and Aldershot with Surrey’s advanced 5G and 6G mobile communications technology and state of the art motion capture, image modelling  and sound facilities in the University’s Centre for Vision System and Speech Processing  (CVSSP). This will provide a unique capability for the region’s high tech gaming companies.
