Writing

Academic writing is an essential part of doing research. Here you can find out more about the support on offer for PGRs and ECRs to develop writing skills and facilitate time for productive writing.

For more information on any of these events and opportunities, please email us at rdp@surrey.ac.uk.

Workshops

The RDP runs CORE Writing Skills Workshops (Writing Critically, Writing Coherently and Writing Concisely), as well as workshops on writing confirmation reports, thesis writing, funding applications and writing for publication.

View details of all workshops.

Writing Cafés

Set and work towards your writing goals in a supportive environment:

  • 10- to 15-minute drop-ins for writing advice with a writing tutor.
  • Access to optional structured writing activities.

Writing Retreats

These intensive writing sessions usually last for the whole day. You will be supported by a writing mentor who will encourage and inspire you to make progress on your writing targets. Virtual and face-to-face writing retreats are available throughout the year.

One-to-one Writing Support

We offer private tutorials for support and advice with academic writing.

To request a one-to-one, please email rdp@surrey.ac.uk

SURJ (Surrey Undergraduate Research Journal)

PGRs can develop their critical review and writing skills in an authentic publishing environment by becoming peer reviewers, copy-editors, layout editors or proofreaders for SURJ (Surrey Undergraduate Research Journal).
