Proof of concepts and millimetre wave solutions

In addition to developing new 5G research concepts, an important mission of the Centre is to carry out technology implementation and performance evaluation in real environments.

Overview

The scope of this research is to realise, validate and integrate innovative and state-of-the-art designs, algorithms and architectures, in pragmatic conditions and scenarios.

The topics of the work area include:

  • Innovative antenna designs, including reconfigurable antennas (and associated feed networks) capable of dynamically adapting to changing circumstances
  • The study, analysis and characterisation of Radio Wave Propagation, including  the mm-Wave channels at 26, 32 and 39GHz bands
  • System Level Design and Demonstration that performs algorithmic and architectural co-design to tackle 5G challenges and showcase breakthroughs / algorithmic ideas in practice both in terms of high level “Proof-of- Concept” validations using software defined research platforms (WARPs, USRPs, etc) and real-time hardware implementations.
