Nigerian graduate nominated for social impact award

Best of luck to graduate Mary Dinah who is a finalist in the British Council Alumni Awards to be announced on Saturday.

Mary, who graduated from Surrey with an MSc in International Hotel Management in 2005, is nominated for a Social Impact Award. The awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of alumni and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education

Award-winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, professions and countries.

Since graduating, Mary has set up the Job-Link Youth Foundation, which focuses on reducing the unemployment rate in Nigeria. The company has a network of 200,000 jobseekers and more than 500 companies use its services.

Job-Link has partnered with Microsoft Philanthropies, the Ministry of Youth and Ministry of Employment and Wealth Creation to help Nigerian youths secure gainful employment. The company has won numerous awards, a Commendation from the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, and was featured on the BBC World Service in October 2016 as one of Africa’s leading social enterprises.
