Binding

Take the stress out of printing and binding, let us do the hard work so that you don't have to! We offer both soft binding and hardbinding in a range of styles and colours.

Soft binding

We offer three types of soft binding: fastback, comb and wire all of which come with a clear plastic cover and white card back.

The most popular type of binding is fastback binding where a black glue strip is heated and sealed down the left edge. This is usually what departments require when they ask for your dissertation to be soft bound, but do check first! Fastback binding is the quickest and we try to do this whilst you wait. During busy periods there can be a wait of up to 1½ hours max.

Comb binding and wire binding are exactly as they sound, a plastic comb or metal wire is attached along the left edge. These options are good for things like sheet music and conference documents as they can be opened out flat and folded back on themselves easily.

If you require a coloured front cover we have a range of colours you can choose from for a small additional cost.

If you are unsure as to the type of binding you require we would suggest checking with your department or supervisor.

Hard binding

We work with a local specialist company who will professionally hand-sew and bind your documents. We can advise you on the specifications that the University of Surrey require for your thesis. We can also show you a whole range of different options for coloured covers, brass corners and more.

This service usually takes three days with collections on a Tuesday and Friday morning at 11am. For instance if you handed your work in before 11am on a Tuesday it will be ready on Friday after 12pm.

You can pop in to organise your binding or if you prefer, fill in our Hard Binding Electronic Form and email it back to us.

Please note: when sending your work for printing we will print single sided as standard unless otherwise requested.
