A Step Forward for Sustainability at Surrey Business School

Surrey Business School is proud to join the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME). This represents a powerful commitment to advance the values of sustainability, responsibility and ethics in our teaching, research and thought leadership.

Through PRME, we join over 650 leading business and management schools from more than 80 countries dedicated to advancing these core values.

We will embed these values through a range of new initiatives in research and teaching. Zeineb Cox is leading us in these efforts, building on work done in previous years, much of which is taking place in the activities of 2018:

  • The Centre for Management Learning’s (CML) upcoming series of workshops around ethics and responsibility in business which will bring together both academics and practitioners;

  • Making use of external benchmarks such as the United Nations ‘Suli test’ for students and staff;

  • Launching a new research centre – the Centre Social Innovation Management – which will extend the work of the Centre for Sustainable Enterprise Management (CSEM). Researchers have formed collaborations across the University with the Centre for Environmental Strategy (CES) and the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM);

  • Working with Enactus to deliver workshops to students to support sustainable business innovation projects

  • Embedding CSR (Corporate social responsibility) and sustainability into the induction and orientation programme for all new undergraduate students;

  • Continuing to develop our Business Ethics module within our undergraduate programmes which combines cutting-edge insights from industry with academic theory to help develop a generation of business graduates who better understand the responsibilities that come with leadership;

  • Introducing a social enterprise element for business plans for the first time for MSc students;

  • Embedding CSR and sustainability into the MBA and Executive MBA programmes
