I-Lab: Multimedia communications

Multimedia communication systems is an internationally renowned research group working in the areas of media processing and communication technologies.  

Research areas

We have approximatley 35 researchers working on a variety of projects that cover the end-to-end communication chain including content capture, processing, coding and adaptation, fixed and wireless networking, content rendering, intelligent user interfaces and interaction, measurement and modelling of QoE.

We have been actively involved in EU framework research programmes as well with national research programmes including the EPSRC and have long term experience with industrial collaborations.


Facilities include its own self-contained audio-visual signal processing labs, subjective testing facilities with various 2D-3D displays and speaker setups as well as communication systems emulators for end to end system configuration and evaluations.
