"Since a child I have always loved science. I have always been fascinated about the world around me and how things work. As I got older I found successive jobs in microbiology and from this a love grew.
I started this programme at Surrey to assist in my future career progression and for my own personal knowledge. Previous to my current programme, I studied Forensic Science at the University of Kent. I came to Surrey for the MSc Medical Microbiology programme because of the University's great reputation, the ability to study whilst continuing my full-time job, and because of the locality to my home.
Overall, my experience of studying at Surrey has been very positive. There is a lot of support (offered by SPLASH, lecturers and the programme leader) and the convenience of the study area open hours are fantastic. I have used the free scientific spellcheck software provided, the Library, the shops and SPLASH facilities.
My proudest achievement so far this year was getting a distinction grade in the Epidemiology, Disease Control and Public Health coursework.
The meetings with my project supervisor have been friendly and constructive. She has always been flexible with meeting times, prompt with email communication and very knowledgeable. There has been an agreeable mix of external lecturers alongside the core teaching staff. There have also been lots of networking opportunities with other students.
My proudest achievement so far this year was getting a distinction grade in the Epidemiology, Disease Control and Public Health coursework, even though I found the subject matter challenging.
