We have an Industrial Advisory Board that has been in place at Surrey for the past 35 years which maintains strong links with business and industry.
About our Industrial Advisory Board
At present the Civil Engineering Advisory Board is chaired by Jim Hutchins who has been associated with many key developments at Surrey in the past fifteen or so years. Jim, a Director of WSP, brought his company into the scholarship scheme providing additional industrial placements for our students. As chairman of the Board, Jim has insisted it runs on boardroom practice and that the committee members are active and bring a variety of skills and backgrounds to the table.
The committee meets three times a year and has a developing agenda. At appropriate times the board focusses on issues in line with JBM priorities of health and safety, sustainability, and design teaching. Additionally the Board will advise on programme developments, research and new approaches to teaching taking advantage of industry connections.
