Open to: Teachers & Careers Advisors

Refreshments: Lunch and refreshments for participants will be provided.

Join the Department of Physics at the University of Surrey for a Teachers Masterclass. This one-day programme gives teachers the opportunity to find out more about cutting-edge research in Nuclear Physics and applications of nuclear technologies. Plus practical activities they can take back to the classroom.

The course will enable teacher to gain a greater understanding of curriculum linked topics in nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics and nuclear energy.
The day will include talks from UK nuclear physicists, practical workshops using radiation detectors to investigate local rock samples and a chance to learn how to get a piece of CERN technology into your school through the CERN@school programme. Lunch and refreshments for participants will be provided.

Nuclear Physics Lego activity aims to get members of the public and schools to build an eight metre long 3D nuclear chart of all isotopes made completely out of lego.

Along the way, the builders are educated in:

  • Nuclear fusion
  • Nuclear fission
  • Nuclear astrophysics
  • Nuclear physics in medicine
  • Exotic nuclei
