There is a body of scholarship that puts intersex - variation of biological sex characteristics outside of binary norms - in social and historical context. However, this work tends to focus on the US, particularly since the mid-twentieth century. In this talk I will introduce my project, to write a recent and contemporary history of intersex in the UK. I will explore how this UK focus can illuminate contemporary global debates in intersex.
