Stag Hill Campus
University of Surrey
We are delighted to invite University of Surrey music alumni back to campus for an afternoon of performance and discussion on the music of one of the Department’s founding fathers, composer Reginald Smith Brindle.
Reginald Smith Brindle (1917-2003) was the University of Surrey’s first Professor of Music. He was a distinguished composer, a dedicated pedagogue, and an important writer on 20th Century music. We will celebrate these three aspects of his professional career as well as sharing anecdotes from his time at Surrey.
We welcome Professor Steven Thachuk from California State University Northridge and the International Guitar Research Archive - a guitarist and musicologist who has made a close study of Smith Brindle’s music.
