Biochemistry lecturer voted academic of the year

Dr Alfred Thumser honoured in Surrey’s annual Student Awards.

Dr Thumser, Senior Lecturer in Biochemistry, received the Lynne Millward Award for Academic Staff Member of the Year 2014 at the annual Student Awards organised by the University of Surrey Students’ Union.

Dr Thumser, who joined the University in 2000 and has research interests in endogenous and xenobiotic metabolism, toxicology and enzyme-linked electrochemistry, is Programme Director for our MSc Health and Clinical Sciences programme and teaches a variety of biochemistry modules across several undergraduate programmes including Biochemistry, Biological Sciences and Biomedical Science.

Speaking about his award, Dr Thumser said: “It was a really nice surprise to receive the award – I’m a little stunned and humbled. We are all part of a team, so the students in my classes should take credit for their positive attitude – I enjoy teaching them.”
