Business School expands academic expertise

Two new appointments in Surrey Business School further strengthen its postgraduate education and enhance its reputation as a leader in the digital economy.

Dr Marco Mongiello and Professor Annabelle Gawer join us from Imperial College Business School.

Marco has been appointed Deputy Head of the School and Executive Director for MSc and MBA programmes and brings with him a wealth of experience in creating and leading innovative postgraduate content and ground-breaking student experience events.

Professor Andy Adcroft, Acting Head of School, said: “Marco is a world-class educational thinker, and his passion for embracing innovation through teaching, learning and assessment is a perfect match for the environment we’re creating at Surrey.

Marco’s said: “It is a true honour for me to be invited to join Surrey Business School, which has achieved so much in recent years and is on a steady trajectory of more and more success.”

Annabelle is our new Professor of Digital Economyand her pioneering work and world-class research in digital platforms will add significantly to Surrey Business School’s agenda.

She is the author of two seminal books on platforms and currently co-authoring a third with Harvard professor David Joffie and Michael Cusumano from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Annabelle will also become co-director of the Surrey Centre for the Digital Economy (CoDE) to accelerate current research efforts and enhance the international reputation of the activities taking place there.

Fellow co-directors of CoDE Professor Roger Maull and Professor Alan Brown said: “Annabelle’s appointment is a great step forward for Surrey Business School and an exciting opportunity to further develop our leading research in this field. 2015 was been a fantastic year for CoDE, attracting a number of major research grants and developing strong academic and industry partnership links, and Annabelle will provide a significant push to the centre’s work and help focus our efforts toward great business and academic impact.”

Annabelle said: “Surrey Business School has the clear ambition to become the European leader in research in innovation and the digital economy, making the right investments to enhance and develop its reputation as a recognised centre of excellence. It’s an exciting time, and I look forward to working with a great team bringing new insights and thought leadership to the digital economy space.”
