CES academic to play key role in ISIE
Dr Jacquetta Lee has been appointed as Executive Secretary of ISIE (the International Society for Industrial Ecology).
ISIE promotes Industrial Ecology as a way of finding innovative solutions to complicated environmental problems, and aims to build a community of scientists, engineers, policymakers, managers and ecology advocates who are interested in better integrating environmental concerns with economic activities.
In her role as ISIE Executive Secretary, Dr Lee – a Senior Lecturer in Surrey’s Centre for Environment and Sustainability (CES) – will be closely involved in discussions about the role of ISIE within the wider industrial ecology network. During her two-year term (which began in January 2017), she will also work with Board members to raise the profile of the society, its aims and objectives.
Director of Surrey’s Practitioner Doctorate in Sustainability Programme, Dr Lee has long experience of bringing the academic and industrial communities together to resolve sustainability issues. She has been a member of ISIE since 2014 and was Co-Chair of the Society’s highly successful Biennial Conference which was hosted by the University of Surrey in 2015.
Dr Lee commented: “I am very pleased to have been appointed to the ISIE Council because ISIE thinking is at the leading edge of sustainable solutions. For this to make a difference to industrial and policy practice, ISIE needs to increase collaboration with practitioners, and facilitate interactions with academics to describe more fully the complex issues they are facing, thus encouraging the development of new tools and techniques necessary to realise sustainability.
“I am looking forward to advancing synergistic research agendas that promote and support the wide uptake of industrial ecology across the world”.
