China-Europe air transport symposium

A one day conference featuring key industry leaders who will share with you what it takes to ensure the success of China-Europe air service development, in support of your commercial objectives.

By the end of the decade some 100 million Chinese nationals will travel overseas each year making China the most valuable outbound tourism market on the planet.

Whilst the European aviation sector continues to show considerable interest in the Chinese market, it needs to understand how the Chinese aviation sector operates and the nuances of the market in terms of how decisions are made.

Key Learnings

Drawing on the experience of senior Chinese and European aviation, tourism and marketing experts with first-hand experience of working in China and with Chinese consumers and business partners, attendance at the summit will tell you:

  • How and why doing business with China is different, including the role of partnerships
  • The ‘must know’ behaviours which are key to success and allow for effective relationship building
  • How Chinese airlines plan new air services to Europe
  • The main factors influencing the purchase decisions of Chinese consumers
  • How best to support carriers once they’ve launched services
  • How to increase your appeal to the Chinese outbound market

You will go away with a clear set of actions related to engagement with the Chinese market, having understood the distinctive cultural elements related to successful development in this space.

Active participation is encouraged at the summit and there will be opportunities for discussion and networking. We aim to create a space where airport, airline, tourism and economic development experts can come together to better understand the difficulties experienced, hear from those already working with China to develop their aviation revenues and market position air services and discuss practical ways forward.

The Programme

The day will consist of a series of presentations from guest speakers – both Chinese and European - complemented by panel discussions to explore specific themes. The active participation of delegates will be encouraged through round-table discussions on specific issues alongside experts, and networking in breaks and at the evening reception.

Speakers and panellists include:

  • Rhys Whalley, Executive Director, Manchester-China Forum
  • Mikko Turtiainen, VP Global Sales, Finnair
  • Guoxiang Wu, SVP China Southern
  • Jasper Spruit, VP Traffic Development, Avinor
  • Jianfeng Sun, President, Hainan Airlines
  • Patricia Yates, Director Strategy & Communications, Visit Britain
  • Stephen Wang, President, Spring Airlines
  • Matt McDougall, CEO, Digital Jungle
  • Kari Savolainen, CEO, Finavi
  • Mark Bosly, Head of International Aviation, UK Department of Transport

There will be a particular focus on the development of UK-China air services but the intention is to view this as a case study from which lessons can be drawn by delegates working anywhere in Europe.

The programme commences at 09:00 hours and ends at 17:00 hours.

Delegates are warmly invited to a networking drinks reception from 17:00 hours to 19:00 hours.
