Hong Kong alumni form Surrey network
Graduates based in Hong Kong have formed a Surrey network to further alumni engagement and act as ambassadors for the University.
Over a wonderful dinner at City University’s restaurant to celebrate the Lunar New Year, those present adopted a constitution, and elected as interim Chairman, Dr Robin Bradbeer, Class of 67, Treasurer Victor Cheung, Class of 88, and Secretary Trevor Jarrett, Class of 74.
Chris Gethin, Director of Development, gave the group an update on the University and, in particular, the vision and plans of Vice-Chancellor Professor Max Lu.
The officials will now formally register the network with the Hong Kong authorities and begin to plan activities over the coming months. The group aims to organise social and networking opportunities, keep alumni informed of what is happening at Surrey and support the University by helping with student recruitment, building Surrey’s reputation and fundraising to support Surrey students and research. Members will, in particular, encourage support for the University’s Chancellor’s 50th Anniversary Appeal.
There are around 1,500 Surrey alumni in Hong Kong and around 420 current students from the region studying at Surrey. The newly-formed Hong Kong Surrey alumni club will hold its first event, open to all, in the coming months and looks forward to welcoming the Vice-Chancellor for a 50th anniversary celebration event on 22 July.
