Meet Ruby Wax

Learn more about Ruby Wax OBE, Surrey’s Visiting Professor in Mental Health Nursing.

Ruby supports the School of Health Sciences to train the most dynamic, effective and caring healthcare professionals.

She contributes to research, curriculum development, teaching and public engagement, and works with undergraduate students from a range of subjects, including mental health nursing.

Ruby said: “I’m enjoying sharing my experiences to help inform the students’ teaching and learning, particularly in the area of mental health, and making a contribution to the development of their skills so they can become the very best healthcare professionals.”

Mental health ambassador 

Ruby came to prominence in the Eighties for being a comedienne, presenting TV documentaries and working as a script editor on Absolutely Fabulous.

Having experienced clinical depression, Ruby studied for a Masters degree in Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy at the University of Oxford. Her book, Sane New World: Taming the Mind was a number one bestseller.

She has brought mental health issues to the foreground in Parliament and is a patron for the British Neuroscience Association and an ambassador for Mind and SANE.
