My Surrey experience: Harriet Swale, MSc Human Resource Management

"I would highly recommend studying here. The University has a great reputation, it has fantastic campus facilities and teaching staff, and Guildford is a great place to live."

"I found it really straightforward to apply to Surrey; the online system is easy to navigate and stress-free. All the information sent through was very clear, and the student support team were very helpful.

I really enjoy certain modules such as Employment Law, Human Resource Development and International Human Resource Management, but overall all the modules are good. I also have great course mates from a wide range of geographical locations, so it’s great to socialise with them.

The teaching staff are fantastic at the Business School. The facilities are also great and we study in a wide range of rooms from large lecture halls to smaller seminar rooms.

The campus is always bustling and has a friendly atmosphere; there are so many places to spend time whilst not in lectures, including the library, which is a great place to study, and a Starbucks.

I also use the facilities at Surrey Sports Park. It’s very affordable and is an excellent sporting and recreation venue. Guildford is nicely located near London and the south coast.

I definitely feel I have changed for the better since starting my Masters. Postgraduate study forces you to become accountable for yourself and your workload. The demands are high, and therefore you have to become more disciplined, especially if, like me, you have been out of further education for a few years. It's a very valuable experience, and really prepares you for a more demanding career.

After I graduate I will be moving to London and starting a two-year HR graduate scheme with a fantastic organisation in the city, and hope to eventually work internationally one day.
