My Surrey experience: Ximai Zhou, Business Interpreting in Chinese and English

"My favourite part of the way we learn here is that we study in a group and do everything we can to help our partners improve their interpreting."

"I was attracted to Surrey first by the BICE programme and later on by the University’s ranking.

I did all my previous schooling in China and had just finished my undergraduate program in English when I applied.

I chose to study interpreting because it has always been my interest; I chose Surrey over other universities because the programme here is more career-oriented. I've always loved language-learning and challenging tasks - in interpreting I find both of them.

My favourite part of the way we learn here is that we study in a group and do everything we can to help our partners improve their interpreting.

It is very rewarding as every time we work on a task together I learn something new from others and more importantly, it always cheers me up seeing how we cooperate perfectly as a group.

The teachers are always happy to help and to share. They make you feel that they really care about you and they actually do. I would highly recommend coming to the University of Surrey to study. The faculty and staff here are all passionate and helpful.

I like the friendliness of people around campus and the many chances to meet new people in the energetic town of Guildford. Since I started at Surrey, I find it easier to communicate with people coming from different backgrounds. Most importantly, I can interpret now!"
