New Associate Dean (International) for the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences

Johnjoe McFadden, Professor of Molecular Genetics, will lead on work to boost the global impact of Surrey's world class research, enterprise and teaching.

Professor McFadden is an expert in developing new systems biology approaches to infectious diseases, developing the first in silico metabolic model of the TB bacillus in 2007 and the meningococcus in 2010. His research examining what the TB bacterium ‘eats’ when it grows inside its host cell was recently published in the journal Cell Chemistry and Biology. He also has interests in the emerging field of quantum biology.

Professor McFadden, who takes over as ADI from Professor Malcolm Von Schantz, said: “The University of Surrey and the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences already have great links with international partners. My role as ADI will be to strengthen these existing links but also build new links, particularly with partners who can help to increase the visibility of our world-leading research.”
