Professor Josef Kittler receives award for his work with Jiangnan University

Surrey Professor Josef Kittler, of the Department of Electronic Engineering, has been awarded a certificate of the Jiangsu Provincial Award for International Cooperation 2015, during his visit to Jiangnan University in Wuxi, China in April 2016.

Professor Kittler, of the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing (CVSSP), received the prestigious certificate following his long-standing involvement with Jiangnan University, his collaboration with Professor Xiaojun Wu and his Pattern Recognition and Computational Intelligence Group.

Professor Kittler assisted in preparing a successful application for a project from the prestigious 111 programme, and has also been involved in the joint supervision of PhD students and the production of joint publications.

During his visit, Professor Kittler also participated in the formal opening of the International Joint Laboratory for Pattern Recognition and Computational Intelligence, alongside other UK partners - Prof Xin Yao, University of Birmingham, Prof Vasile Palade, Coventry University, Prof Choi-Hong Lai, University of Greenwich and Professor Hong Wei, University of Reading. Surrey is represented jointly by Professor Kittler and Professor Yaochu Jin of the Department of Computer Science.

Jiangnan University ranks amongst the top 50 universities in China, and Professor Kittler’s receipt of this prestigious award is a welcomed extension of Surrey’s highly valued links to China and our vibrant international community.
