One of the safest universities in the UK
The University of Surrey was named the number one university in the UK for security in the Times Higher Education (THE)’s Student Experience Survey 2017, as well as ranking fifth nationally in the survey overall, rising from 26th place last year.
We’re lucky at the University of Surrey to be able to call the friendly, easy-going market town of Guildford our home. The Halifax Quality of Life Survey 2015 named Guildford as the eighth best place to live in the UK, and it’s also one of the safest places to live in the UK, with some of the lowest rates of crime in the country.
As such, it’s no wonder that the Times Higher Education’s Student Experience Survey 2017 rated the University of Surrey number one nationally for security, confirming that we are one of the most safe and secure places to study in the UK.
In the survey, more than 15,000 students from across the UK were asked to rate aspects of their university that contributed either positively or negatively to their overall experience. The University of Surrey got excellent scores not just overall, but in lots of the individual attributes explored in the survey. In addition to placing top for security, we were also rated an impressive sixth for our sector-leading industry connections and student welfare, and seventh for both university facilities and recommending us to a friend.
Peter Brinkley, Head of Security and Deputy Director Operations of Estates & Facilities Management, said:
“Our Security Services Department endeavour to ensure our staff, students and visitors feel safe and secure across all of our campuses. We have a fully-trained round-the-clock Security patrol team who work closely with students and staff to keep our campus a safe place to live, learn and visit.”
