Students vote Surrey best university for facilities
The University of Surrey has won the award for ‘Best University for University Facilities’ at the WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2015.
The Whatuni Student Choice Awards are voted for exclusively by students. The University of Surrey was shortlisted for seven of the nine award categories, including University of the Year, Best University for Courses and Best University for Job Prospects.
"We are delighted to receive this award and see that students rate their experience at Surrey very highly,” said Professor Gill Nicholls, Vice-President and Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Affairs at the University of Surrey.
“Providing a high-quality student experience is at the very heart of the University and we continuously strive to ensure that every student gets the most out of their time here. As part of that commitment, we invest heavily in the University’s facilities. This includes investment of £130 million on student accommodation, £36 million into Surrey Sports Park – with a full refurbishment of its health and fitness centre planned for later this year – and £16 million on the new Library and Learning Centre.”
Simon Emmett, Managing Director of Whatuni, said: “Students have recognised the University of Surrey across seven categories this year, with outstanding results for University facilities. Students were especially impressed by the modern feel of the University, and specifically the sports complex, which demonstrates to us that students see value in the investments universities are making to improve their facilities.”
The WhatUni Student Choice Awards success follows on from a successful year for the University of Surrey in all three major league tables for UK universities.
We rose to sixth place in The Guardian University Guide 2015, climbed to eleventh position in The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide and jumped two places to ninth in The Times Higher Education Table of Tables 2015.
The University was also ranked at number six for this year’s Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey, placing in the top three for high-quality facilities, good sports facilities and good industry connections.
