Surrey Business School: sharing retail expertise across Europe

Expertise from Surrey Business School is being recognised across Europe, as students and professors from Italy recently attended a workshop on UK food and grocery retailing delivered by SBS academics.

Designed to complement the studies on their Master Retail Marketing Management Programme, the students from the Università degli Studi di Parma benefited from an in-depth introduction to the UK food and grocery retailing industry. The visit to Surrey included lectures and case studies delivered here at the University, along with guided trips to major retail firms (including ASDA and Marks and Spencer) and a meeting with guest speaker Richard Quinn, Head of Farms and Business Change at The Co-operative Group.

The workshop provided students with a number of benefits, from understanding current developments in retail and consumer markets and an awareness of the structure of the food and grocery industry in UK, through to an appreciation of food distribution and supply operations at leading firms in this country.

The course was delivered by SBS experts from the Marketing and Retail Management Group, as well as members of the Hospitality and Food Research Group in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
