Guardian puts Surrey in UK's elite top 3 universities for Languages & Linguistics

Respected Guardian University Guide 2015 league table puts only Oxford and Cambridge ahead of Surrey for Modern Languages & Linguistics.

Surrey is now ranked among the UK's elite three best universities for modern languages and linguistics, according to the Guardian University Guide league table 2015. An impressive rise of 15 places means that only Oxford and Cambridge are now placed above us. The University as a whole moved into the top 6 for the first time, above institutions such as LSE, UCL, Durham, Lancaster and Warwick.

The Guardian bases its rankings on factors such as teaching excellence, student satisfaction and employability rates. A top-3 placing recognises our longstanding commitment to building practical, professional, applied language expertise, which reflects the call from employers (both in the UK and abroad) for more graduates with language skills, cultural awareness and professional experience.

"This has actually been our approach for the last 40 years," said Dr Lucy Bell, University of Surrey Admissions Tutor for Languages. "Rather than focusing on literature, like most other British universities, we place an emphasis on language acquisition, intercultural communication and professional skills"

The University recently achieved a top-10 student satisfaction rating of 92 per cent in the National Student Survey (NSS), ranking us 9th in the UK.
