Surrey maintains strong position within 2014 Academic Ranking of World Universities

Computer Science research hits the 101-150th spot within the ARWU.

Surrey’s Computer Science research has reached a 101-150th international ranking for the third year running and means that the University stays as a top ten UK academic institution for the subject, according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

The 2014 ARWU has presented the world’s top 500 universities annually, since 2003, based on transparent methodology and reliable data on research excellence. Its subject rankings on Computer Science started in 2009 and are based on research-related criteria tailored to the subject.

"Computer Science continues to enjoy success in the world rankings, most recently being placed in the top 150 in the ARWU league table," said Surrey's President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Christopher M Snowden FRS, FREng, FIET, CEng, FIEEE, FCGI.

Head of Surrey’s Department of Computing, Professor Anthony TS Ho, said, “The ARWU ranking is one of the oldest and most well-known world university rankings in the world. Since 2012, Surrey’s research in Computer Science has been ranked in the top 150 in the world and within the top ten in the UK, according to the ARWU-subject Computer Science rankings for three consecutive years (2012, 2013 and 2014) – demonstrating our commitment to delivering high-quality research in the field.”
