Surrey’s scrapheap challenge

Find out what happened when electronic engineering students were challenged to create wireless airships using nothing but unwanted electricals.

Similar to the Scrapheap Challenge television show, the Surrey 'ScrapheEEp Challenge' asks students to draw upon their knowledge of physics, computing and engineering to design and build the best machine they can to complete a certain task.

This year, the challenge was to create an airship – an inflated balloon controlled wirelessly over the internet  to go around an obstacle course. Previous challenges have included getting a bouncy ball across a polystyrene wall and creating a robot to complete an obstacle course.
