Surrey sleep expert appointed new Associate Dean (Research)

Derk-Jan Dijk, Professor of Sleep and Physiology and Director of the Surrey Sleep Research Centre, named Associate Dean (research) for the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences.

Professor Dijk, who was awarded a prestigious Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award earlier this year, takes over the role from Professor Ian Kitchen, who is standing down after a six year term of office.

Professor Dijk said: “I am looking forward to working closely with colleagues across all departments and continuing Professor Kitchen’s excellent work. There is a wealth of expertise within FHMS and it will be a privilege to help raise the quality and impact of the research that takes place here.”

Professor Kitchen will take on the role of Interim Head of the School of Biosciences and Medicine until January 2014.
