Surrey welcomes Ireland ahead of the 2015 Rugby World Cup

Coaching staff from Ireland's national rugby team have paid a visit to Surrey Sports Park, which will act as the team's base during the tournament later this year.

Ireland’s Surrey Sports Park base will consist of top facilities including world class grass pitches, artificial 3G pitches, a 50m eight-lane swimming pool, 120 station gym and a dedicated strength and conditioning studio.

Michael Kearney, Ireland team manager, who visited Surrey Sports Park with Head Coach Josef Schmidt, said: “The Ireland team management are delighted that the team will be based at Surrey Sports Park for a portion of our time at the tournament.

“Team bases play a vital role in team preparation and it is important that the facilities are of a world-class standard while also providing a positive atmosphere for the players and management in between training and team activities.”

Professor Sir Christopher Snowden, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Surrey, said: "I’m delighted that our Sports Park has been selected by Ireland as one of their team bases for Rugby World Cup 2015. It is particularly fitting given our international mix of staff and students, from over 120 different countries.

"I look forward to welcoming back Michael, Josef and their team to Surrey Sports Park and wish them every success in their preparations for the tournament this year.”
