A FREE day of fun, imagination and discovery
Join us to celebrate 50 years in Guildford. Enjoy a free day out with all the family and discover the wonderful things that happen here at the University of Surrey.
The programme will be jam-packed with music, comedy and dance performances, talks, sports activities, hands-on workshops, and science and technology exhibits. Plus, local food stalls, a kids’ zone, and the chance to try out your clinical skills and meet the animals at the School of Veterinary Medicine.

Organised by the Students’ Union, Free Fest’s history dates back to the early days of the University and will include a full twelve hours of music, dance and comedy.

Enjoy bite-sized presentations on popular topics and exciting discoveries, from the mysteries of space to how to write a family memoir.

Try our world-class sporting facilities for free, including tuition from some of the county’s elite sports teams. Alumni are also invited to take part in our Grad Sport competition, playing against current students for the Annual Grad Sport cup!
Meet the animals we treat in our clinic, test out your own clinical skills, discover the science behind the future of animal healthcare and obtain free advice about your pets.
We regret we can't allow pets at the Festival.
Our student’s run a variety of innovative and enterprising businesses and they will be offering up their services on the day.
Local food suppliers will be on-site serving drinks, lunch, snacks and light refreshments, as well as providing demonstrations and tastings. You can also try your hand at chocolate making in our Lakeside Restaurant.
Fun for the under 10s including: bouncy castles, face painting and a tea cup ride.
Graduates and retired staff are invited to enjoy a free glass of celebratory fizz in our Alumni Lounge – a great place to meet up, reunite with friends and learn more about our alumni programme. What to bring
The festival is free but please bring your invite or confirmation of booking, a picnic blanket to enjoy the entertainment by the lake, a picnic or money for our food stalls, plus your family and friends.
Provision for children
There will be baby changing facilities on site and a buggy park. There is plenty on offer for our younger guests – please see full programme.
