About dual degreees

The dual degree programme provides students with two degrees – one English and one Chinese – in the same timeframe as a traditional Chinese degree programme.

Both the awards and institutions are recognised and respected in China and the UK, increasing the value of the award. The dual-degree programmes are also more valuable because:

  • Students who want to go onto a postgraduate qualification will have a UK degree, which is more universally accepted than a traditional Chinese degree, thus opening more opportunities to apply for other world-leading universities
  • The final two years of the dual degree are taught solely in English, meaning students finish their degree with a higher level of English language skills
  • International companies greatly value a UK degree, as students have knowledge and experience of the western approach to management, are able to work across many cultures, and have excellent language skills
  • Graduates are more employable if the student is applying to a job in China they would put their Chinese degree forward, but if they are looking internationally they would place emphasis on the UK degree
  • The opportunity to study in the UK provides a rounded international education and is a pathway to living and working overseas

Academic reputaion

SII-DUFE combines the experience and reputation of two significant educational institutions.

DUFE is a top-ten specialised institution in its category (finance and economics) within China, according to the China Alumni Network (CAN), Wuhan University Ranking (WUR) and Wu Shulian University Ranking (WSUR).

Surrey is a top-ten UK university, ranking fourth in the Guardian League Table 2016, and eighth in both the Complete University Guide 2016 and The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2016, which also awarded it the title of University of the Year 2016.

Teaching quality

SII-DUFE is subject to regulations both in China and in the UK, which ensures the quality of education provided.

Surrey Business School at the University of Surrey is accredited by the USA-based Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), which is recognised throughout the world.

All programmes are audited by the British Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and the Chinese Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE), to ensure the way we manage and deliver the programmes meets international standards of excellence.

SII DUFE is a Sino-Foreign Joint Cooperative School approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education.

Learning and teaching

Expert teaching staff dedicated to the SII-DUFE programmes, along with academic support from the Surrey campus, ensure students receive the highest quality teaching and a regular teaching timetable.

Students will have access to dedicated learning resources, including the SII-DUFE library, Learning Centre and Language Lab. Students also have access to the DUFE main library and their online services.

They will also have access to our Virtual Learning Environment with electronic copies of all lecture slides, module descriptions, handbooks, news items, links to resources, a dedicated emailing system, assignment submissions and tests.

Students are further supported by the International Cooperation, Career and Alumni and Student Support Offices.

Student support

Students are supported in a number of ways, ensuring the best possible outcomes for personal wellbeing and academic achievement.

Support is provided by the Student Affairs Office at SII-DUFE. A range of support services are similarly provided at the University of Surrey by staff in the Student Services Centre who offer support and advice on all aspects of student life from accessing medical and counselling services to fees and careers support.

Live-in wardens and student mentors look after residents in our student accommodation.

In the UK and at SII-DUFE, students are allocated a personal tutor on campus who can offer advice on personal and academic issues and provide career advice.

While in China, students receive face-to-face contact from Surrey academic staff to, helping to prepare them for study in the UK if they choose this option.

Finally, personal development is integrated into our study programmes so that whether students decide to continue study in China or in the UK, they receive workshops to prepare them for life after graduation.

Value for money

In comparison to a traditional degree, the dual degree provides students with two degrees from DUFE and Surrey, while only paying tuition fees for one degree.

Even when your son or daughter undertakes the final year (or final two years in the UK) costs are much lower than the cost of studying the whole degree in the UK. If your son or daughter chooses to study all of their dual degree at SII-DUFE in China, they still receive the same UK education at a significantly lower cost.

Graduates of a dual-degree programme can also take advantage of a ten-per-cent discount on the cost of a Masters programme at the University of Surrey.
