University of Surrey appoints Professor Ansgar Richter as Dean of Surrey Business School
The University of Surrey has appointed Professor Ansgar Richter as the new Dean of Surrey Business School, ranked second in the UK for Business and Management and twelfth for Accounting and Finance by the Guardian University Guide 2017.
- Award-winning academic and business consultant, Professor Ansgar Richter has been appointed to the newly created role of Dean of Surrey Business School
- He will be responsible for six departments and will lead on formulating and implementing strategies relating to teaching, research and external engagement
- Ansgar’s combination of academic excellence, first class leadership and significant international experience named key reasons for his appointment
Born in Germany, Ansgar is Chair of Management and Head of the Organisation & Management Group at University of Liverpool Management School (ULMS). Prior to joining ULMS in 2013, he worked at EBS Business School near Wiesbaden (Germany), where he held the Chair of Strategy and Organisation, and served as the Head of the Strategy, Organisation & Leadership Department and as Vice Dean of Research.

Professor Ansgar Richter
Following studies of Philosophy and Economics in Frankfurt and Bochum (Germany), Ansgar read Industrial Relations and Personnel Management at LSE. He successfully completed his PhD in Management at the Interdisciplinary Institute of Management at LSE in 1999. From 1999 to 2002, he worked as a management consultant with McKinsey & Company, advising clients in various European countries and the US on matters of strategy and organisation.
Ansgar was a visiting scholar at the University of California at Berkeley (1997), Stanford University (2005, 2011, 2012), and INSEAD (2009). He also taught at Cranfield School of Management, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Leipzig Graduate School of Business, Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode, XJTLU (China), École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, and University of Montana Graduate School of Business, USA.

Ansgar will take up the new role from 3 October 2016.
