Surrey Civil Engineering Professor Honoured by International Committee

Renowned structural engineer Professor Hoshyar Nooshin, from the University of Surrey, has been given a prestigious award by a pre-eminent international committee.

The International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures has handed Professor Nooshin its top prize, the Eduardo Torroja Medal, for his contributions to design, construction and research in the field.

Professor Nooshin – who was born in Tehran in 1934 – has been part of the Department of Civil and Environment Engineering at the University of Surrey for more than 50 years, having joined the then Battersea Colleague for Advanced Technology in 1963. He was also the Director of the Space Structures Research Centre at the University for 20 years.

Professor Nooshin said: “It is a great honour to be awarded the Eduardo Torroja Medal. I not only want to thank my peers who nominated me for the award, I also want to thank everyone who I have had the pleasure to work with during my time at Surrey.”
