Postgraduate Institute for Measurement Science

The Postgraduate Institute for Measurement Science offers postgraduate researchers the opportunity to conduct research in metrology and its applications in engineering and the physical sciences, with the support of supervisors from NPL and academia.

The Institute, which is managed through a partnership between NPL and the Universities of Surrey and Strathclyde, currently works with over 30 universities to support more than 150 postgraduate studentships.

Postgraduates taking up studentships with the University of Surrey benefit from world-leading facilities across Surrey’s campus in Guildford and NPL’s headquarters in Teddington, and can draw on the expertise of not only their supervisors but also fellow students, industry partners and – through the wider NPL network – a broad range of measurement specialists.

The unique collaboration of academia, NPL and industry places the Postgraduate Institute in a superb position to develop and nurture the next generation of world-class measurement scientists.

Available studentships

Each year Surrey and NPL look for highly motivated postgraduates to take up a number of joint PhD studentships in a range of specialist fields linked to metrology.

These studentships will be based across Surrey’s campus in Guildford and NPL’s headquarters in Teddington, Middlesex, and supervised by academics across both institutions.

Once avaliable, studentship details and application information will be listed on the following page:
