An 80,000 word thesis …9 hours to present. Their time limit...3 minutes!
Ms Hashini Thirmanne, a postgradutae researcher in the Nanoelectronics Centre in the University of Surrey's Advanced Technology Institute has won the Surrey round of the 3 Minute Thesis Competition (3MT).
The 3MT is an international academic competition that challenges doctoral students to describe their research within three minutes to a general audience. 3MT celebrates the discoveries made by research students and encourages their skill in communicating the importance of research to the broader community. The winning student will be entered into the national competition.
The judging panel were: Vice-Chancellor, Max Lu, last year’s winner Simon Steenson (FHMS), Lucy Bell (Lecturer in Spanish and Translation Studies), Ria O’Sullivan (Marketing) and Siddharth Gadkari (research fellow in Department of Chemical and Process Engineering).
