Recently, Dr Rao Martand Singh has been awarded the Telford Premium Prize for the best paper in Environmental Geotechnics Journal by the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) for the following paper:
Gas permeability of partially hydrated geosynthetic clay liner under two stresses.
M. A. Rouf, R. M. Singh, A. Bouazza, R. K. Rowe & W. P. Gates
Environmental Geotechnics: Volume 3 Issue EG5, October 2016, pp. 325-333
The paper investigates the gas transport by advection through unsaturated porous media under two different stress conditions. Findings of the investigation can be applied to geomaterials such as geosynthetic clay liners (GCL) used in landfill as a cover to prevent green gas house escaping to the atmosphere and bentonite clay used for borehole sealing in shale gas production wells.
Dr Singh and his co-authors received the award in a ceremony held at the ICE Headquarters at One Great George Street, London on Friday 6th October 2017.
