Can bouncing boost your child’s health?

Hoops 4 Health programme teaches children healthy living #SurprisingSurrey

Surrey Scorchers and school children

Team members of Surrey Sports Park’s professional basketball team, Surrey Scorchers, are actively involved in the delivery of Hoops 4 Health – a nationwide community programme aimed at young people who attend schools in deprived areas.

As positive male role models in the community, the themes of internet safety; healthy eating; the importance of exercise and the dangers of smoking are all topics that are covered and will be tailored to target specific areas of concern in local Guildford state schools. Coming from diverse backgrounds, the basketball players are ideally positioned to speak to the young people about their own experiences and will act as aspirational mentors, encouraging participation in sports activities as a great way to improve fitness levels and enhance life skills.

Surrey Sports Park is a leader in innovative sports participation opportunities and experiences in the South of England, which supports the generation of an active nation. We aim to use the power of sport to engage with the wider community and meet local needs, inspiring young people to develop physical literacy and a positive attitude towards sport.
