Celebrating the music and life of Schubert
From the 18 – 20 May, the University of Surrey Department of Music and Media are inviting audiences to a wonderful weekend of live music, lunchtime recitals and discussions celebrating the music and life of Austrian composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828).
Schubert is considered to be one of the greatest composers of the late Classical and early Romantic period. However, during his relatively short lifespan Schubert had a limited number of followers, and it was only in the decades after his death that many nineteenth century composers uncovered and celebrated his work.
The pinnacle of the Schubert Weekend will be an evening performance of Winterreise by the internationally renowned singer Ian Bostridge CBE on Saturday 19 May. Ian Bostridge’s international career takes him to the foremost concert halls of Europe, Japan and North America. His many recordings have won a variety of international prizes and 15 Grammy nominations.
A full programme of events is available online and includes free lunchtime recitals by University students and discussions by Schubert experts.
The Schubert Weekend takes place on Friday 18 – Sunday 20 May 2018 at PATS Studio One, University of Surrey. Weekend tickets cost £30, £25 for concessions, £5 for students/under 18 and there are also individual event tickets available too. All tickets are available to purchase online.
