The fall of the Berlin Wall is inspiration for the Falling Walls Lab

The University is hosting the UK Falling Walls Lab to choose a winner from 20 creative thinkers from universities across the country. They will qualify for the Global Lab Finale in Berlin on 8 November and compete for the title of Falling Walls Young Innovator of the Year.

We would love to welcome alumni to the event at which entrepreneurs, innovators and scientists outline their ground-breaking projects in front of their peers and a distinguished jury drawn from UK academia and business. Panel members include Surrey graduates Professor Jim Al-Khalili, Dame Linda Dobbs, Sir Martin Sweeting and Mr Prasanna Sooriakumaran.

Following the presentations, entertainment will be provided by the renowned GSA Singers while the jury deliberates. Complimentary refreshments will be served.

The Falling Walls Lab runs from 2-6pm in the Rik Medlik building on the Stag Hill campus. The event is free but please register your attendance.

As well as prize money, the winner will also join the Falling Walls Conference on 9 November, the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, at which forward-thinking people from 80 countries aim to answer the question: “Which are the next walls to fall?”
