The prize is to be distributed amongst classical performance students who show particular promise with their chosen instrument and are involved in the Department’s concert calendar. The students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, will perform to the benefactors in a specially organised concert in May 2021.

The Humphrey Richardson Taylor Charitable Trust was established in 1997 for the 'advancement of public education in, and appreciation of, the art and science of music and allied performing arts.'

The Trust's benefactor, Mr H R Taylor, who lived in Cheam, Surrey, and died in 1996, was devoted to music throughout his life and wished to encourage the growth of music-making and live performance by people of all ages. Since 1997, the Trust has provided financial support for a range of musical activities in the geographical and historical areas of Surrey.

Dr Galea comments: “Our heartfelt thanks to the Trust’s generosity, especially in such a difficult year, on behalf of all the recipients of this award. We look forward to the seeing the difference this will make to students in 2021, and for this collaboration continuing for years to come.”
