Ben is a second year student studying Theatre Production at GSA at the University of Surrey. As recipient of the SLX student bursary, and along with four others, Ben received £3k for hire equipment as well as being awarded various networking and development opportunities.

"I am thrilled to have received this bursary and to start a relationship with such a well-respected company."

SLX is one of the leading hire and events companies in the UK and annually offers the student bursary scheme to all second and third year lighting design students across England and Wales, providing five successful students with equipment, support and opportunities across the academic year.

SLX took the lucky winners to their head office in Bristol for two days of workshops, as well as offering a chance to meet each other and learn more about the company. SLX also offer winners their valuable industry knowledge not to mention their contacts and connections.

As a result of winning the bursary, Ben is keen to put the money towards benefiting the BA Musical Theatre second year productions of Sweet Charity and Pal Joey, shows where budgets would not have covered the cost of professional lighting equipment ordinarily.

Ben said: “The £3k of hire will really benefit me and others by allowing more advanced equipment to be used on some productions. However, I am more looking forward to the experiences that they are offering by giving me more industry contacts and taking me to their events. This support is invaluable and a resource that I hope to build upon throughout my time at GSA as well as after graduation.”
