IPROCOM fellows attended twelfth UK Particle Technology Forum

IPROCOM fellows, Serena Schiano, Simone Loreti and Zilin Yan attended the twelfth UK Particle Technology Forum in Manchester, on 16 - 17 September 2014. They contributed an oral presentation and three poster presentations in relation to IPROCOM project.

Zilin Yan gave an oral presentation about his DEM simulation work entitled ‘Parameterisation of DEM Simulations: A statistical Analysis’. A statistics based sensitivity study approach was introduced to the DEM modelling.

Serena Schiano gave two poster presentations on characterizations of granular materials during roll compaction entitled ‘The impact of roll compaction on the proprieties of pharmaceutical granules’ and ‘Quantification of bulk density distribution of roll-compacted ribbons using terahertz pulsed imaging’ (co-work with Jianyi Zhang).

Simone Loreti gave a poster presentation on ‘DEM Modelling of fragmentation of pharmaceutical ribbons during impact’. In his work, a ‘Modularity’ approach from the network theory was introduced to the DEM modelling.

IPROCOM Supervisor Dr. Gavin Reynolds (AstraZeneca, UK) also attended this conference as a member of the committee of the RSC Particle Characterisation Interest Group.
