We support hands-on learning
University is a transformative experience, preparing you for your future career in a job market that’s sometimes turbulent. Surrey Business School students, from a multitude of cultures, thrive on participation and being active in their learning experience, so they can bring real-life experiences to their careers. We support this through:
- Professional Training work placements. This year, the University of Surrey won the National Undergraduate Employability Award for the Best University Placement Service for the second year in a row. Watch this video to hear from three of our Surrey Business School students as they share their placement experiences.
- The opportunity to study and work abroad. Nearly all undergraduate students at Surrey have the opportunity of spending at least a semester with one of our world-wide partners. Find out what countries our students visit here.
- Extra-curricular opportunities to work with businesses and gain entrepreneurial skills through SurreyIDEA and Student Enterprise.
- The opportunity to work on real-life business challenges, such as this marketing campaign for a drinks company as part of a Consultancy Project module.
We place employability at the centre of everything we do
Employability is built into our curriculum for almost every subject on offer. Our courses bring students into contact with business, and increasingly our undergraduate students are choosing to spend a Professional Training placement year with companies such as Microsoft, Gymshark, IBM and The Walt Disney Company.
We have over 15,000 business school alumni from 130 countries across the world. They keep us connected to enterprises and organisations across the globe, and they forge international connections and links to sectors in every industry. Find out more about our alumni, and alumni benefits.

We are a global community
At the University of Surrey our staff and students come from over 130 countries, and at the Business School we partner with 47 universities around the world and work with a network of business partners and companies. We are a school with real and significant reach. Lots of what we do is local to Guildford, but you will also find our students working and studying across Europe and North America, Australasia and Asia. We believe the opportunity to work with people from different cultures is invaluable.
We have the accreditations and rankings to support our story
We are accredited by both the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the Association of MBAs (AMBA) as well as course specific professional recognition from industry bodies, confirming our commitment to quality and continuous improvement. We have also been awarded the Athena SWAN Bronze Award, which recognises the work Surrey Business School has undertaken to create an inclusive culture that values its people.
Furthermore, this year we were ranked in the top 10 for business and economics in the United Kingdom by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 by subject.
