Surrey graduate michelle hicks has received the guthrie brown award
For her paper “The quadripartite vaults at London Bridge station” published in June 2015 in The Structural Engineer. This distinguished award recognizes papers of merit, written by members under 40 years of age.
In this paper Michelle explains how her professional training placement with WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff working on the redevelopment of London Bridge station sparked her interest in the station’s historic quadripartite vaults. Michelle found inspiration from this topic and extended this to her final project where she looked in more detail into the structural performance of quadripartite vaults using plasticity and finite element analysis. She has a technical paper under preparation on this subject.
