Surrey PhD student to join international research programme in Brazil
PhD student Josephine Barbara Herschan from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has received an opportunity to carry out an international research exchange programme in São Paulo, Brazil.
Supervised by Surrey’s Professor Katherine Pond, Josephine will join a postgraduate programme in Hydraulic Engineering and Sanitation (PG-SHS) from the São Carlos School of Engineering (EESC) at the University of São Paulo this month.
The activities will take place in Professor Lyda Patricia Sabogal Paz’s research group on topics associated with slow filtration on a household scale.
The international reputation of the EESC-USP research groups has attracted researchers and students from all over the world.
The exchange will be key for the development of applied research with tangible benefits for the sanitation of rural communities, thus meeting sustainable development goal 6 (clean water and sanitation) set by the United Nations.
