Surrey PhD student a winner in national portfolio competition
Mazin Alshamrani has been announced as one of five winners of a nationwide PhD Portfolio Competition.
Organised by Research Media – a company providing support to researchers in disseminating and communicating their research – the competition aims to raise the profile of early career researchers and illustrate the outstanding work being produced within UK universities. Five prizes were on offer, each with the goal of aiding the students in bringing clarity from the complexity of their PhD research projects.
Mazin Alshamrani has won a profile piece in Research Media’s flagship publication, ‘International Innovation’, which will focus on his research project 'Multimedia Implementations over Mobile Wireless Network Systems'.
Other prizes included a bespoke poster presentation, an infographic and a lay summary. Around 200 students entered the competition, from 68 UK universities.
Mazin commented, “Participating in this type of competition with other PhD students from around the world was a great opportunity for me to improve the visibility of my research efforts. I believe that promoting my work to other researchers and technology developers is almost as important as conducting the research itself.”
Vicky Williams, CEO of Research Media said: “PhD students are doing some outstanding work but face the challenge of making their research visible. Research Media are committed to raising the profile of early career researchers. I am delighted to congratulate the winners and look forward to seeing the final pieces from across all five prizes.”
