Cathy Howard joined the University of Surrey in 2009. Since then she has coordinated the University-wide in-sessional English Language Support Programme; delivered undergraduate degree modules in English Language; launched the University's tandem learning schemes, LACES and StaffLACES; and coordinated the Professional training placements for English Literature and Language students. Since 2015 she has been the Subject Leader for English for Academic Purposes programmes.
Cathy holds an MA in English Language Teaching from the University of Reading.
Cathy delivers modules on the MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in Language Teaching Methodology and Second Language Acquisition Theories; an undergraduate module in Teaching English as a Foreign Language; and a wide range of English Language Support (ELSP).
Cathy leads the University's English for Academic Purposes provision. This includes summer and year-round Pre-sessional programmes, the in-sessional English Language Support Programme, the IELTS test centre, and bespoke summer schools for groups from selected international partner institutions. She is also the Programme Leader for the MA TESOL and the EAP Faculty representative for Economics, Sociology and the GSA.
