In early December 2012, researchers and film makers from universities in Serbia and Palestine travelled to Surrey for the first meeting of the international team involved in researching local perspectives on international intervention. Colleagues from the Faculty of Media and Communications of Singidunum University (Belgrade), from Birzeit University in Ramallah, and Al-Azhar University in Gaza travelled to the UK to meet with a team in the School of Politics, in order to plan the next phase of a collaborative project 'On the Receiving End' funded by the British Academy and supported by the British Council.

The first visit has taken place from the University of Surrey to Birzeit University in the West Bank (Occupied Palestinian Territories) as part of a research programme funded by the British Academy and involving Surrey, Birzeit, and the University of Singidunum in Belgrade. “On The Receiving End” will examine understandings of international intervention from the perspective of citizens on the ground in each of the three locations, through a series of research projects devised and implemented by students in each of the three locations. It aims to build a collaborative research network as well as shedding new light on an important and highly topical subject.
